The scenarios in this lab will demonstrate an overview of a Microsoft System Center Service Manager installation and initial configuration, covering the following topics:
Installing Service Manager
Importing data from Active Directory,System Center Configuration Manager, and data and alerts from Operations Manager 2007 SP1 and above
Configuring User Roles within Service Manager
Manually adding users that were not imported from Active Directory
Creating several templates, configuring initial parameters, creating queues, lists, and groups, and then creating a management pack to save any custom objects
Installing Service Manager in a production environment in a scenario where Service Manager is installed on four computers
I got to say that the moment I looked through the Hardware and Software Requirement for Service Manager, I was pretty shocked at the Software Requirements. Everything is x64 !!!!! ... Nevertheless, I come to accept that the way to go is 64 bit and have no serious qualms on this.
Basically, in Service Manager we have 4 main components in it being:
Service Manager Management Server - Contains the main software component of a Service Manager installation. You can use the Management Server to manage incidents, changes, users and tasks
Configuration Management Database (CMDB) - The database that containts the Service Manager Configuration Items (CI) information fron the IT Enterprise
Service Manager Console - The UI component that is used by the analyst and the helpdesk administrator to perform Service Manager function such as incidents, change and tasks. This commponent is automatically installed on the Management Server. You can also install additional Service Manager Console on other computers
Data Warehouse - (Optional) This is the server and the database that provides long term storage of business data to be used for reporting
